Smell the largest mountain range in Cyprus - Troodos, with our natural, botanical aroma TROODOS.
Troodos is located in roughly the centre of the island and is a green haven all year round. It is home to a lot of endemic plants on the country and is believed to be one of the most important mountain habitats for plants in Europe. The rich biodiversity is formed due to the difference in altitude, particular geology and the presence of water. Its highest peak is mount Olympus at 1.952 metres. One endemic tree is the Cyprus Cedar or Cedrus Brevifolia. Another - the Golden Oak or Quercus Alnifolia. Troodos is one of Cyprus' hidden gems. It is home to different resorts, there is a significant snow fall in the winter and offers the opportunity to ski. It has been home to plenty of copper mines, which for centuries used to supply the Mediterranean region with the metal. The area is famous for its many Byzantine churches and monasteries.
OLFACTORY IMPRESSION OF TROODOS:
Wake up on a sunny, but fresh morning in one of the little picturesque village in Troodos, Cyprus. Sip on your hot herbal tea and put on your hiking shoes, ready for an adventure. You are going to Cedar Valley, home to the endemic Cedrus Brevifolia trees. As you start making your way up the valley, your eyes marvel at green fougeres, Pine and Oak trees. As you continue, your attention turns to the Rockroses, because they are plentiful and colorful, with their bold pink flowers and petals so fine, they resemble butterfly's wings. Rub their green, sticky leaves between your fingers and inhale the rich leathery aroma. Smell spells of sweet woody notes from the trees' barks and resins, combined with crisp, earthy, wet, mushroomy notes from the Oakmoss on the Pines, Cedars and Oak trees around, carried to your nose by the wind. Wild herbs like Lavender and Sage are releasing their aroma in the air too.
In the villages of Troodos, the roads are crowned with Plane trees. Crush their leaves in your hands, inhale and fall deep under the spell of their dark woody, honeyed, musky and rich aroma. Our botanical impression of Troodos takes you along the mountainous Villages and their ancient paved roads, to smell traditional garden plants like Rose Geranium and Bitter Oranges.
