About us
Halkos botanicals
Cypriot love for botanical extracts can be traced back over four thousand years ago. Yes, back to the Bronze age, when the oldest discovered perfume factory in the world existed in Cyprus. Aromas used to be extracted via distillation of plants. Traces of pine, lavender, rosemary and more on terracotta were found during archeological discoveries, made in 2005, in Pyrgos, near Limassol. The fragrances made there used to be exported for trade throughout the Mediterranean. It is during the same period, when Cyprus gained its current name, coming from the Latin sign for copper Cu (Cupros), meaning Χαλκός (copper) in Greek, as the island is rich in the metal.
Perfume shaped by season, place and time
Halkos Botanicals creates limited botanical perfumes rooted in the lanscapes of Cyprus. Each fragrance is composed once a year, guided by the rythm of the seasons and the availability of local botanicals at their natural peak.
Our perfumes are not reproduced endlessly. They are harvested, distilled, and composed in small batches - shaped by climate, soil and time. When a season ends, the perfume is complete.
The Olfactive impressions of Cyprus
Each Halkos fragrance is an olfactive impression of a specific Cypriot landscape - mountains, coastlines, villages, forests. These are no abstract concepts, but places gathered through scent, using botanicals grown or wild-harvested on the island.
Released in limited seasonal editions, each perfume reflects a particular year and harvest. Variations are natural. Repetition is impossible.
Limited by Nature
Production quantities are determined by the land.
We work with what the season provides - flowers that bloom briefly, resins that change with heat, herbs shaped by rainfall and wind. Each batch is naturally limited and never scaled beyond the integrity of the ingredient.
When an edition sells out, it will not be restocked.
About Halkos Botanicals
Halkos Botanicals was founded in Cyprus as a study of scent, land and time.
Our work is rooted in traditional botanical extraction methods, including copper alembic distillation and slow enfleurage. These processes require patience and precision, allowing the true character of each plant to emerge without accelaration or synthetic enhancement.
Every ingredient is chosen for its relationship to place - cultivated or wild-harvested locally, often in quantities too small to repeat. The result is a collection of perfumes that exist as records of specific seasons, rather than permanent formulas.
Halkos Botanicals is not driven by trends or timelines. We work at the pace of nature.
Our Process
Seasonal Harvest
Botanicals are harvested only when they reach their aromatic peak - sometimes for a few days each year. Timing is guided by climate, bloom cycles and tradition.
Traditional Extraction
We use time-honored methods such as copper distillation and enfleurage to preserve the full depth of natural aroma. These processes are slow by design and produce limited yields.
Small-Batch Composition
Each fragrance is composed in small seasonal batches. Natural variation between years is embraced as part of the perfume's identity.
The Collection
Seasonal Olfactory Editions
Each fragrance is released as a seasonal edition, named for the landscape that inspired it. Bottles are filled by hand and in strictly limited quantities.
Once an edition sells out, it is retired.
Botanical Extracts & Hydrosols
Our botanical extracts and hydrosols are produced in micro-batches using freshly harvested plants. Each is distilled or enfleuraged shortly after harvest, capturing a fleeting aromatic moment.
Sustainability & Responsibility
Working in small seasonal batches allows us to respect the land and its limits. We harvest responsibly, prioritize local cultivation and avoid overproduction.
Sustainability for us is a necessity dictated by nature.
Join us on a unique olfactory journey through our island,
Love,
Halkos Botanicals - Cyprus
